Your mouse stops at the edge of your screen.

It doesn't have to. You can bring it over here too.

Windows, Mac and Linux, in any mix.

One keyboard and mouse for every computer on your desk

Rest the pointer on the edge of your screen and it carries on to the computer beside it, keyboard and all. No switch box, no second mouse, no pile of cables.

Download Scootch

Free for 3 days, then buy it once. Windows, Mac and Linux.

On a real desk, it looks like this

A Mac and a Windows PC side by side. Rest the pointer on the Mac's edge, the edge lights up, and the pointer carries on onto the PC, with your keyboard.

Set up in two minutes

  1. Install Scootch on each computer.
  2. On the one whose keyboard you'll use, click Add a computer. It shows a six-digit code.
  3. Type the code on the other computer, then click Allow.

No account to make. Every computer you add works the same way.

Scootch's Add a computer window, showing a six-digit code to type on the other computer. The code works for two minutes.

Copy here, paste there

Copy on one computer and paste on another, the way you would on one. Text, pictures and formatting come across.

Passwords copied from a password manager stay where they are.

Carry files across

Pick up a file, take it over the edge and let go on the other computer. It's saved in Downloads/Scootch, and the original stays where it was.

It works in every direction, and on through to a third computer.

Set them out like your desk

Side by side, one above another, or in a row with one beyond the next. Drag each computer in Scootch to where it really sits, and the pointer goes the way you'd expect.

Scootch's arrangement of three computers: a laptop above a Mac mini, and a PC to the right.

Shortcuts that speak both

Use a Mac keyboard with a PC, or a PC keyboard with a Mac, and the shortcuts you know do what you expect. Terminals keep their Ctrl+C.

And the rest

Nothing leaves your home

Questions

Do I need a particular mouse or keyboard?

No. Any keyboard and mouse, any brand, wired or wireless, USB or Bluetooth. Scootch works with whatever your computer already uses, so there's no special mouse to buy and no other software to install.

Which computers does it run on?

Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), macOS 11 or later on Apple silicon or Intel, and 64-bit Linux as new as Ubuntu 24.04, with X11 or Wayland.

Does it work with more than one screen?

Yes. Scootch takes all of a computer's screens together, and their outside edges lead on to your other computers. With two monitors side by side on your Mac, the left edge of the left one can lead to one computer and the right edge of the right one to another.

Can I share the mouse but keep the keyboard?

Not yet: the keyboard goes wherever the pointer goes. Choosing what comes across is on the list.

Does it work over the internet?

No. Your computers need to be on the same home network, which is also what keeps it quick.

Do I install it on every computer?

Yes, on each one, with the same version on all of them. After that, Scootch keeps them up to date.

Why does my Mac ask me to allow it?

We're applying to Apple to have Scootch notarised, which is how Apple checks apps from outside the App Store. Until then, macOS asks you to allow it once, in System Settings, under Privacy & Security. The download page shows you how.
